Bariatric surgery
Am I a candidate for weight-loss surgery?
It depends on your body-mass index, obesity-related conditions, previous weight-loss attempts and overall health. The surgeon decides whether surgery is suitable, and which type, after a consultation and tests.
What is a triple-protected sleeve?
It is a sleeve gastrectomy with a reinforced staple line and omentopexy (re-fixing the omentum), intended to reduce the chance of gastric twisting and to lessen heartburn and vomiting after surgery.
Endoscopy
Can reflux be treated without surgery?
Yes — in selected cases reflux can be treated endoscopically with techniques such as ARMA, ARMS and banding, with no surgical incisions. The doctor will assess whether it suits you.
What is the difference between a gastric balloon and bariatric surgery?
Gastric balloons and the smart capsule are temporary, non-surgical options used for a set period, while operations such as sleeve gastrectomy and bypass are permanent surgical solutions. Your doctor will help you choose based on your weight and health.
How do I prepare for a gastroscopy or colonoscopy?
Fasting is usually required before a gastroscopy, and bowel preparation before a colonoscopy. The clinic team will give you detailed preparation instructions when your appointment is confirmed.
